Just in today, Friday March 11 2022, the creators of Bored Ape Yacht Club, Yuga Labs, bought the historically significant CryptoPunks, from Larva Labs, for an undisclosed amount of money.
Just for some background. Larva Labs back in 2017 on the cryptocurrency blockchain Ethereum created the project CryptoPunks. Looking below a CryptoPunk is a thumbnail picture artwork of various alien, ape, human or zombie heads with different triats.
Right now the cheapest CryptoPunk goes for around $200,000 USD dollars, which is an outrageous sum. Some people even believe one day, a CryptoPunk could go for as much as $1 million, $5 million or even $10 million USD dollars. Though the rare alien ones already go for above that amount.
This CryptoPunk in March 11 2022 sold for $230,000 USD.
What went down today was that Yuga Labs, the creator of another popular NFT thumbnail artwork known as Bored Ape Yacht club, bought out the intellectual property, (IP) of CryptoPunks from Larva Labs. As a result of this, the price of CryptoPunks has went up. CryptoPunks went up in price because Yuga Labs, made the step that any owner of a CryptoPunk can license out their IP to Bollywood or Hollywood in movies, tv shows, games or comics.
